HÜSEYIN ISIK OR CONTROLLED RANDOMS
Four elements rule Life: Fire, Rain, Wind and Earth.
Years later, I completed them
I was born at the beginning of the 6o’s in a small Kurdish village. Immediately after my birth my family migrated to Istanbul.
1988 I came to Vienna, in a world, different from the world I knew, with strange people and another sense of reality. I placed myself at the disposal of time for whatever use it might make of me.
Since the midst of the 90’s I presented my art in various exhibitions. At this time in my live everything (besides me) was under control. Until today my topics are identity, racism and strangeness. Having developed a love for public spaces like streets, roads, squares, hospitals and public transport means, I tell unusual stories about the city, transforming her dark sides into bright ones. In performances I was a policeman controlling documents, made sculptures of Heroes explode, killed candles by cutting them off the air, erected boarders in the open field, bided for human rights activists, convicted to death, fought with my paintings for political correctness and wrote chat-programmes without electricity and network…
Since 10 years I am not allowed to travel to Turkey, because I “forgot” to serve in the army. Since 2003 I live at the Friedrichshof, where at this moment, frozen in time, I sit under a tree and cook coffee for my neighbours.
